Nagel-Group and Helios Europe invest 19 million euros in logistics centre and create 50 jobs

“The central location in the European Single Market and the successful linkage of different modes of transport make Saxony-Anhalt one of the important logistics hubs in Europe. The settling of the Nagel-Group and Helios Europe here in Kabelsketal is further proof of this. It invigorates the logistics location Saxony-Anhalt and confirms the State’s strategy to support the logistics sector.”

Michael Richter, Saxony-Anhalt State Secretary in the Ministry of Science and Economic Affairs, said this today on the occasion of the presentation of the investment project of the Nagel-Group and Helios Europe at Großkugel Business Park. State Secretary Richter, Tobias Nagel (Nagel-Group partner), Michael Hughes (CEO Helios Europe), Marcus Cebulla (Nagel-Group managing director), Frank Bannert (District Administrator of the Saale Administrative District) and Kurt Hambacher (Mayor of the Municipality of Kabelsketal) collectively broke the first ground for the new Nagel-Group logistics centre.

The logistics centre will be built on a land plot of the size of nearly 60,000 square metres. The logistics centre includes different temperature zones and is being planned and built by British real estate investor and project developer Helios Europe in partnership with EPISO a Luxembourg domiciled investment fund co-managed by AEW Europe and Tristan Capital Partners. A total of 50 new jobs shall be created and 19.1 million euros shall be invested. The warehouse management system developed by the corporate-owned software house specialising in temperature-controlled food logistics will be used in the new Nagel-Group logistics centre.

The location Kabelsketal is a consistent continuation of the local activities of the Nagel-Group. After the opening of the forwarding subsidiary’s first facility in September 1992, expansions followed in 1998 and 2007. The latest new building of the logistics subsidiary takes into account the growing sector of contract logistics. Tobias Nagel, a Nagel-Group partner, confirms: “Foodstuffs require short channels. That is why this region has enormously gained in attractiveness due to the eastward expansion of the EU and thanks to the excellent infrastructure for our European logistics network. The expansion confirms our choice of location in Kabelsketal. We are growing together with the region.” The investment project of the Nagel-Group and Helios Europe was accompanied from the very beginning by the state’s own Investment and Marketing Corporation.

For Helios Europe it is the first project that is being realised at this location. Michael Hughes, CEO, Helios Europe - Development Manager of the EPISO fund, says:  “Following our recent partnership with EPISO it is very pleasing to have signed a lease with such a strong and successful company as Nagel at our site. This project further demonstrates the excellent location of Kabelsketal for logistics projects. We are also very happy to be so well supported by the state and local governments and institutions in the development of this project.”
